When one thinks of the hit reality television series, Survivor, you can’t help but think of Jeff Probst, the host of the show from the beginning, dating back to 2000. That is 15 years of hosting a show that has taken place in locations including Cambodia, Australia, Africa, Panama, Thailand and many more. He has been there through it all from Richard Hatch’s win in season one to last’s season most memorable return of past favorites from Survivor – making all of the seasons memorable and unique in its own way.
I had the chance to see the premiere episode of Season 32 of Survivor, followed by a Q&A with Jeff Probst and past Survivor favorites, Parvati Shallow (winner of season two Survivor) and Stephen Fishbach (runner up – Survivor: Tocantins and Survivor: Second Chance)
Probst spoke openly about some of his favorite seasons, what it is really like to be at Tribal Council and much more.
When asked what his favorite Survivor season was, Jeff said, “I have to separate season one because that was this crazy, weird, cool amazing season because they didn’t know anything. The last season was my favorite. It was the best time I had out there because every person played. From the first person to the last person. When we did “Second Chance,” everyone out there had a shot at winning.”
Like so many fans of the show, Jeff would love to play the game of Survivor and would be happy to play it, on TV or not. He said, “it’s a $20 million dollar adventure built just for you.” It’s a great game, where you are stripped of everything and there is a million dollar prize at the end, with no real rules. As for what team Jeff would be on if he played this season; the brains, the brawns or the beauties, Jeff said he would put himself on the brain team if he could. Surprisingly, he revealed that during the casting of the show almost every person who was cast believes they could be on any of the teams.
One of the big reveals from the Q&A was that this season of Survivor was actually filmed before Season 31. So while Survivor: Second Chance had live voting from the viewers, this season will take a step back and play out a bit slower than last season. No worries though – Survivor will hit the ground running for Season 33 and have live voting again.
Some behind the scene ‘inside information’ that we learned from Jeff had to do with his living quarters and what he really knows before he heads to tribal council. Before tribal council, the only thing that Jeff knows is who has an idol, who is the person who may go home and if anything big is happening – like a fire or if a tribe has lost their food. Jeff said he doesn’t want the details because the only thing he cares about is tribal council. While the production staff started out in the first few seasons living in a tent, they now live in small houses with electricity and air conditioning.
Survivor Season 32 takes place in Cambodia on the island of Kaôh Rōng, where the castaways offer harsh conditions and relentless weather, presenting one of the most physically grueling seasons in the show’s history.
The details for Survivor Season 32 are as follows:
The theme for Survivor: Kaôh Rōng is “Brains vs. Brawn vs. Beauty.” Each tribe is comprised of six castaways, who have similar characteristics that make their group unique. The brains are comprised of those with a high IQ, the Brawn group has a cast of people with muscular physique and the “Beauty” tribe has the physical looks. Breaking the three tribes into Brains Vs. Brawn Vs. Beauty will finally prove if there is is any truth to the pre-conceived notion that certain characteristics will help you win the game of SURVIVOR. All castaways will compete to outwit, outplay, outlast and ultimately be crowned Sole Survivor.
Included on this season’s cast is an Army veteran, an emergency room doctor, a bounty hunter, a former FBI agent, a pro poker player, a superfan, a quantitative strategist and a former NBA champion.
The battle unfolds when these three tribes compete on SURVIVOR:
The Brains Tribe
Joseph Del Campo
The Brawn Tribe
The Beauty Tribe
